Reporting To:   Director and Client Management

Scope and Purpose:  

Asymilate is niche market consultancy specialising in the delivery and implementation services of Front / Middle and Back Office package software to the wholesale banking community. We are recently focussing on the Calypso Technology Platform (www.calypso.com) which is used as a Core Processing platform by the Tier one Financial Institutions. The functionality covers Cross Asset Front, Middle and Back Office requirements i.e. trade capture, pricing, risk management and settlement of trades.

Asset Class coverage is FX / Money Markets / Fixed Income / Derivatives including Credit Derivatives. There is a now a need for business analysts and technical developers competent in the delivery and implementation of such software.

Engineered in real time and designed for high volume processing the software will be amongst the new breed of front and back office systems adopted for replacement of existing legacy systems. Technologies used by the platform are JAVA (100% multi-tier, component based architecture) and relational database (Oracle / Sybase / DB2) in a distributed environment.

Training will be provided to the right candidates where specific skills are lacking.

Main Responsibilities / Deliverables:

Java Developers / Architects:

• Experience of developing in Java / J2EE / RMI / SWING / XML / RDBMS / MQ Series / C++ / SeeBeyond / Websphere in a financial institution particularly with regard to building interfaces between multiple source and target systems.  Trade / market data / static / SWIFT / Confirmation Matching / Accounting (GL) systems are common requirements and a strong ability to build reusable software modules, adaptors and conversion programs using the above technologies is mandatory.
• Rapidly develop prototypes using the core JAVA classes and also the proprietary financial classes provided by the Calypso Toolkit. Strong developer sense of building and trying where documentation doesn’t exist.
• Independent attitude to learning new technologies and familiarity with different development tools (Ant, Eclipse, Java, XML, XSLT, etc)
• Ability to work with Business Analysts to convert functional specifications to core product extensions and adaptors using core libraries.
• Ability to architect, design, build, deliver, test and support software delivered to Client institutions
• Strong independent problem solving skills and attitude.
• Delivery experience of similar packages (Wall Street, Infinity, Gloss, Summit, Front Arena, Algo Riskwatch or similar) highly desirable.
  
  

  Business Analyst:
  

• Core business knowledge of one or more of the asset classes FX / Money Markets / Fixed Income or Derivates from a settlements perspective essential.
• Production of detailed functional and technical specifications for the mapping of trade / product / static and market data between Calypso and internal source systems.
• Gap analysis of core Calypso Functionality against requirements for implementation and definition of detailed specifications for Calypso extension work.
• Product configuration including some of the following capabilities.
• Definition of accounting entries (GL) according to specific asset class.
• Set up of Settlement instructions (direct, agent, third party, CLS and GSTPA)
• Specification and configuration of SWIFT messages per asset class
• Modelling of business workflows to determine schedule of payments per asset class and trade lifecycle processing for STP
• Corporate Actions definition and set up
• Good hands on attitude towards testing, configuring and deploying customisations according to Client requirements
• Knowledge of any structured methodologies for defining and capturing requirements, creating test plans / UAT test cases and supervising others would be advantageous
• Delivery experience of similar packages (Wall Street, Infinity, Gloss, Summit, Demica, or similar back office) highly desirable.
  
  

  Training will be provided to candidates who do not have all the skills but show keen interest and ability in the above

Business and Technical project members working on the build and delivery of the Calypso Platform i.e.

• Asymilate Director
• Project Manager
• Client Operations staff.
• Client technical development staff.

 Experience and Competencies:

• Track record of delivering third party Financial Software packages
• Knowledge of distributed computing models, application architectures and Web based services.
• Excellent business analysis and problem solving skills.
• Financial Markets Experience.
• Self starter, resourceful with strong energy and drive to diagnose problems independently
• Ability to work as part of a small (initially) team with the flexibility to take ownership for areas beyond their immediate capabilities
• Good interpersonal and presentation skills which will facilitate communication at all levels within client organisations.
• Focus on high levels of Client Delivery.

The successful candidate is likely to have a good degree in a scientific subject and be amongst the high performers in their chosen field.
