Business Analyst – Financial Markets

Synopsis:

Scope and Purpose:
Asymilate is niche market consultancy specialising in delivery and implementation services to the wholesale banking community concentrating on Front / Middle and Back Office package software. We are recently focussing on the Calypso Technology Platform (www.calypso.com) which is used as a Core Processing platform by the Tier one Financial Institutions. The functionality covers Cross Asset Front, Middle and Back Office requirements i.e. trade capture, pricing, risk management and settlement of trades.
Asset Class coverage is FX / Money Markets / Fixed Income / Derivatives including Credit Derivatives. There is a now a need for pragmatic Business Analysts with strong product knowledge of pricing, risk and settlement to work for the leading Investment Banks in South Africa. Candidates will have a strong desire to be the best in their field and exceed client expectations with a strong independent attitude. They will have good communication skills and be able to communicate at all levels from Senior Management to technical developer. A can do attitude is required and any experience of agile methods for software implementation would be a bonus. Engineered in real time and designed for high volume processing the software will be amongst the new breed of front and back office systems adopted for replacement of existing legacy systems. Technologies used by the platform are JAVA (100% multi-tier, component based architecture) and relational database (Oracle / Sybase / DB2) in a distributed environment.
Training will be provided to the right candidates where specific skills are lacking as this is a strategic long term initiative.
Main Responsibilities / Deliverables:
Business Analyst:
- Core business knowledge of one or more of the asset classes FX / Money Markets / Fixed Income or Derivates from a front / middle or back office perspective is essential.
- Production of detailed functional and technical specifications for the mapping of trade / product / static and market data between Calypso and internal source systems.
- Gap analysis of core Calypso Functionality against requirements for implementation and definition of detailed specifications for Calypso extension work. Similar experience with another package is also of interest.
- Product configuration including some of the following capabilities.
- Definition of accounting entries (GL) according to specific asset class.
- Set up of Settlement instructions (direct, agent, third party, CLS and GSTPA)
- Specification and configuration of SWIFT messages per asset class
- Modelling of business workflows to determine schedule of payments per asset class and trade lifecycle processing for STP
- Corporate Actions definition and set up
- Pricing and risk management of different asset classes
- Good hands on attitude towards testing, configuring and deploying customisations according to Client requirements. Experience of creating test plans, test cases and running UAT / parallel runs
- Knowledge of any structured methodologies for defining and capturing requirements, creating test plans / UAT test cases and supervising others would be advantageous
- Delivery experience of similar packages (Wall Street, Infinity, Summit, Front, Algo Riskwatch, or similar) highly desirable.
Training will be provided to candidates who do not have all the skills but show keen interest and ability in the above

Business and Technical project members working on the build and delivery of the Calypso Platform i.e.
- Asymilate Director
- Project Manager
- Client Operations staff.
- Client technical development staff.
Experience and Competencies:
- Track record of delivering third party Financial Software packages
- Knowledge of distributed computing models, application architectures and Web based services.
- Excellent business analysis and problem solving skills.
- Financial Markets Experience.
- Self starter, resourceful with strong energy and drive to diagnose problems independently
- Ability to work as part of a small team with the flexibility to take leadership for areas beyond their immediate capabilities
- Good interpersonal and presentation skills which will facilitate communication at all levels within client organisations.
- Focus on high levels of Client Delivery.
Education:
The successful candidate is likely to have a good tertiary degree in a scientific subject and be amongst the high performers in their chosen field.
